DOW, Google, Amazon, Meta pledge to triple nuclear energy by 2050

At the CERAWeek 2025 conference, major global corporations, including Amazon, Meta, Google, and Dow, recently signed a pledge to triple nuclear energy capacity by 2050. This initiative is the first cross-border backing highlighting nuclear’s growing appeal as a clean and stable power source. This pledge aims to turn nuclear power into nuclear power, as renewables won’t be alone in fulfilling the energy needs of artificial intelligence centres.

The pledge may create potential opportunities for private market firms and asset managers and impact investors by increasing demand for long-term investments in nuclear technology. It also encourages new financing models and supports clean, reliable energy while aligning with ESG goals.

Let’s explore the Triple Nuclear Pledge in detail.

About the Triple Nuclear Pledge

First adopted in COP28 in Dubai in the Triple Nuclear Pledge energy capacity by 2050 to meet rising electricity demand and achieve net-zero emissions. The initiative was endorsed by 120 companies in more than 20 countries and was backed by financial institutions, including Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, and Goldman Sachs. The pledge is non-binding; however, it highlights the growing support for expanding nuclear power worldwide to promote decarbonization, sustainable development and maintaining the 1.5°C temperature limit.

Key aspects of the Triple Nuclear Pledge

  • The pledge was signed on Wednesday, following the guidance of the World Nuclear Association at the CERAWeek event hosted by the S&P Global Energy conference in Houston.
  • The initiative is signed by major companies like Amazon, Google, Meta, Dow, and others, alongside 140 nuclear industry firms, 14 global banks, and 31 countries.
  • Nuclear energy is pivotal for achieving net-zero targets due to its ability to provide low-carbon power. That’s why this initiative aims to triple nuclear energy capacity by 2050 to meet rising global electricity demand while reducing carbon emissions.

Meta, Google, Amazon, on the Triple Nuclear Pledge

Urvi Parekh, Head of Global Energy, Meta, said, “As global economies expand, a reliable, clean, and resilient energy supply is paramount. Nuclear energy, with its ability to provide continuous power, can help meet this rising demand. We’re excited to join alongside this multi-organizational effort with the Tripling Nuclear Pledge to reiterate our commitment to nuclear energy.”

Lucia Tian, Head of Clean Energy & Decarbonization Technologies, Google: “We are proud to sign a pledge in support of tripling nuclear capacity by 2050, as nuclear power will be pivotal in building a reliable, secure, and sustainable energy future. Google will continue to work alongside our partners to accelerate the commercialization of advanced nuclear technologies that can provide the around-the-clock clean energy necessary to meet growing electricity demand around the world.”

Brandon Oyer, Head of Americas Energy and Water, Amazon Web Services: “Accelerating nuclear energy development will be critical to strengthening our nation’s security, meeting future energy demands, and addressing climate change. Amazon supports the World Nuclear Association’s pledge, and is proud to have invested more than USD1 billion over the last year in nuclear energy projects and technologies, which is part of our broader Climate Pledge commitment to be net-zero carbon by 2040.”
